Randy Bryce – Populist or Puppet?

When I first saw Randy “Iron Stache” Bryce’s video announcing his campaign I will admit that I was excited.  What I saw was a true leader of the working class, a real representation of the proletariat.  When you’re first introduced to him you recognize that he is an army veteran, cancer survivor, iron worker for twenty plus years and that he takes care of his sick mother. However, you also see that every liberal media outlet is covering this candidate the day after he announces that he is running.  Odd, usually when a progressive minded candidate announces that they’re running the mainstream media chooses to ignore them. What is different about Randy Bryce?  Who funded the high quality video that his campaign put out? Why is GQ, People, Shareblue and Esquire publishing articles about him?

When you do your research on Randy Bryce you acknowledge that this is not the first time Randy Bryce has run for office.  He lost in 2014 in his run for Wisconsin State Senate and also lost in 2012 when he ran for Wisconsin State Assembly.  Now it should be clear that this does not necessarily make him a bad candidate but it doesn’t help his case. The reason that I am concerned is because you never explicitly see or hear what his position is on just about any issue.  From his video, his website and his twitter account you could believe that he supports single payer and the fight for fifteen dollar minimum wage. Except you never see or hear him say specifically that he supports either one.  Even on his campaign’s website it never specifically states any exact policy position which scares me.  What also hurts his credibility is the fact that after Sanders was cheated out of winning the primary he strongly supported Hillary and most importantly didn’t call out the BS that Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and the DNC cooked up during that primary.

He seems to be bashing the “Bernie or Bust”  crowd as early as 2015, might seem harmless but to me and many other progressives it demonstrates a democratic idea that people who fall on the left side of the political scale owe their votes to Democrats regardless of how shitty their candidate is.

From what he says online he appears to fall in line with the rest of the establishment democrats and media in Neo-McCarthyism. Bashing, Bashing, Bashing Russia, Trump and Russia, Russia and Trump, Trump and Russia, it is played out and not helpful.  We need to be focusing on the real issues and making a push for progressive policies like single payer healthcare.

When you look into Randy Bryce it appears he is a regular moderate democrat and not a progressive. Also, he has some Neo-Liberal political strategists helping with his campaign in Bill Hyers and Sachin Chheda. It all seems fishy and it all smells like a front.

Who knows? Maybe Bryce will be the populist we need and he will soon announce more firm positions on key topics. Hopefully he will announce he supports single payer healthcare. On a positive note it does appear that he is focused on beating Ryan/Trumpcare from his website.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope Bryce turns out to be the mustachio populist America needs!
